We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to make an impact surrounding the issue of mental health and the stigma that continues to grow around it everyday. I grew from 5-15 really quick during my childhood and throughout that time I struggled a lot with what went on in my head. It wasn’t until early 2020 during lockdown when I decided I wanted to make a change and help those who struggle with processing and encountering their thoughts with the experiences I’ve been through…. Because I have been there and still find myself in that position every so often. So HendosHotTopics was born. It is safe to say that the podcast has created a safe space for someone like you or myself where people can find others with similarities to themselves to give them the comforting realisation that they aren’t alone. I do it for the people who have trouble realising that it’s okay not to be okay.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would like to call myself a mental health advocate. Being 18 I feel I have a lot of power in terms of making the wave of change and influencing people with the message I am trying to put out there. I don’t and didn’t want others to go through the mental hurt and pain I went through for so many years, therefore I turned my negatives into positivities. I knew what I was trying to say had an impact on people from the Messages I was receiving and the people I was being told that I was saving…. Thats what kept me going when people were trying to break me and stop what I was doing. lessons I’ve learnt are to realise it’s okay not to be okay and to take the risk or lose the chance.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would be saying, get your favourite snack and put on some shorts cause we are heading to the beach in the trucks. The beach is a safe place for me, it’s calming and relaxing. My mates and I tend to take our trucks up to the beach often and enjoy it, it’s calming to all of us. Takes our mind somewhere else and we all have a good time. That’s where I’d be taking them.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly I would like to say thank you to my mother and stepfather who have backed me with my podcast and my ambitions. They have taught me to be able to push myself to my full potential. I would also like to thank, Jenn Bainbridge, Vanzey, Wayde from Waydes World and Sam from Better Than Before who helped me reignite the flame when I was trapped in my head and lacked motivation. I thank you.
