We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Stiles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, what do you attribute your success to?
As a new band it is hard to gain the ear of people. Success can come in many forms and its hard to know it sometimes even when you see it right in front of you. For us the most important factor to success is simply perseverance, commitment to each other and being a part of the local scene.

As we have seen, the pandemic laid waste to a lot of what we considered normal. A lot of bands did not make it out of 2020. Phantom Hound thrived in writing new music and out of the pandemic will come our sophomore album. Our perseverance through the pandemic, health issues, time away and just plain living life has been our anchor. It seems nothing will stop this band from making music.

All of this comes from a commitment to each other. We’re only a 3 piece band so the conversations are pretty easy. Our communication with each other is great and we support each other. We share the load with all things band and take the lead when its needed do to our strengths as individuals. If one of us is better or more equipped to handle a situation, we put our focus there.

Above all though, its very important to be a part of the local music scene. Sure you want to meet the bands that come to town that you play with but you have to go to other shows as well. Go see your friends play. Go check out a new venue. Good things come when you support others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Phantom Hound is a Hard Rock band from Oakland, CA. We write our own songs and have a second record that is due to come out in 2023. Phantom Hound combines elements of the blues, metal, grunge and stoner rock to create a sound that is all our own.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re out in Oakland, you can catch us at Ghost Town Brewery, Jack London Square, Slainte or Merchants.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shout out would have to go to all of our families that allow us the time to do what we do. From there it goes to the fans, other bands & venues. Without these elements, being in a band would not really be very much fun.
