We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeannette Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeannette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process came in different stages. First, I shared my experience with domestic violence with one person and then another and I realized one day that if I shared my life experiences with more people I could have a huge impact, even if it’s just one person. I shared my experiences and began to blog about how I went through domestic violence, sexual assault and war. People who began to message me and share their experiences, I empowered them to open up about trauma they have silenced for many years. I knew I had to do more, I needed to Speak Up for those who are silent. I needed to show them that though we go through such hard times, we can be strong again. We have the power to stop being victims and be victors.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am proud to have overcome big obstacles, trauma and healing. The process isn’t easy and everyone’s path looks different. Being able to speak to audiences about hard to talk about topics is a challenge in itself because it can be hard for someone to hear what I have been through and trigger others who have experiences similar trauma. I learned that I have to stay strong when it gets tough, I have to show grace to myself and give myself the space to take in all that is happening. I am here to empower others to break the silence of trauma and regain their power.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am from the West Valley and I love all the locally owned businesses. I would start with going to Old Litchfield and hitting up Park Cafe for brunch and amazing bloody mary’s , TCBC for good local beer and end the night at Lazy Palm where they have DJ Bingo, Karaoke or Trivia and great staff. On the weekends I like to go eat at the West Valley Food Park, all the food trucks are amazing, Pony Miche, Churro Jefe, Sunset Sushi and Authenticos Mesquite Grille, you can’t go wrong. If I want to drive further I’ll go visit my favorite Menos Shrimp food truck. I’ll take my guest to Top Golf or the Wildlife Zoo for activities. If they need coffee, I’ll go to Modern Grind Coffee in Avondale.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God, he gives me the strength daily to keep finding the courage that even when I fail to continue being a powerful person. My son who I do everything for, that he grows up knowing his mother always fights for what she believes in and works hard. My family and friends who support me and push me to be bigger everyday.
