We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeannette Maré and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeannette, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by humble people. There is so much strength and confidence in true humility – knowing that you’re not better or worse than anyone, that learning is a forever process, and that we really need each other. People who approach their work and their lives with humility aren’t afraid to listen, ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. Letting go of competitive instincts is liberating!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I often use the word “organic” when I describe Ben’s Bells. Nurturing this mission and this organization over nearly two decades has been humbling and exciting because of the organic nature of its growth. Ben’s Bells mission is about understanding the importance of kindness and how to actively and intentionally incorporate the practice of kindness into everyday life. The behavior change we’re after is the “way of life” practice that enhances our health and well-being. But we’re not interested in trying to convince or coerce, rather we want to offer something that people can take or leave. It is that offering that I’m most proud of, that we provide something that is shared organically and does not need to be forced.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My life is full of teachers in the form of friends, family, community leaders, authors, and podcasters. I dedicate my shoutout to all those who have allowed me my imperfections and trusted me to learn and grow. I’d like to give a special shoutout to my little Ben who is my most dependable guide.
