We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Pantin Bermudez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2020, Chaconia Candles began as a small company with a big vision: to promote mental wellness and sustainability in our community. I wanted to create something meaningful, and we quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality, sustainably made candles and home fragrances that not only smelled great but also helped to promote mindfulness and relaxation.

I was inspired to start my business after seeing the impact that stress and anxiety were having on my own life and the lives of those around me. I realized that many people were struggling to cope with the demands of society and life, and I wanted to offer a solution that would help people to relax and unwind.

At the same time, I grew in my commitment to sustainability as a mom, partner, and business owner. I wanted to create a business that was not only good for people’s mental health but also good for the planet. That’s why I made a conscious decision to use only high-quality, nontoxic, cruelty-free, and vegan ingredients in my candles and home fragrances, and to minimize our environmental impact in every way possible.

As word of my mission spread, Chaconia Candles began to attract a loyal following of customers who appreciated the company’s commitment to both mental wellness and sustainability. Today, we are proud to be a leader in the movement towards more mindful, sustainable living and we continue to create products that help people to relax, unwind, and reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sometimes our path is not always linear. My journey to where I am today had many turns. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and even as a kid, I launched small businesses, including a holiday gift basket business. However, I ventured into a career path. After more than 18 years of experience in communications, diversity, equity, and inclusion, I left my full-time job in 2022 as the Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Internal Communications to pursue my dream of expanding Chaconia Candles and bringing innovation to support the community’s mental health. I continue to embed all that I have learned along the way into my business.

I have learned many lessons. One of the most important is the power of consistency. You are not always going to feel like it. Do it anyway! Also, it can be tempting to try out every new idea that comes your way, but that approach can quickly lead to chaos and confusion. By staying consistent with our goals, products, branding, and customer service, we’ve been able to build a loyal following of sustainably made and nontoxic candle lovers who know they can count on us. Whether you’re running a candle business like mine, or pursuing any other entrepreneurial venture, remember that consistency is the foundation on which great businesses are built.

This isn’t a lesson, but certainly a constant reminder. I am reminded every day about the importance of community. None of us can achieve success alone, and it is essential to surround yourself with supportive people who believe in your vision.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so grateful for the organizations that share our vision of promoting mental wellness, supporting the community, and prioritizing sustainability. It is an honor to work alongside groups like Black Mental Wellness, Hudson Pride Center, Sustainable JC, and so many others who are making a real difference in the world.

At Chaconia Candles, we believe that aromatherapy can be a powerful tool in promoting relaxation, mindfulness, and self-care. But we also know that true wellness extends beyond the individual, which is why we are committed to supporting the community through charitable donations and partnerships.

Of course, sustainability is also at the heart of what we do. We believe that it is our responsibility to care for the planet that sustains us, which is why we use only nontoxic and high-quality ingredients and eco-friendly packaging. We are always working to minimize our environmental impact and to create products that are both beautiful and sustainable.
