Meet Jennifer Foxx | Piano Teacher and Teacherpreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Foxx and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on my life. Attitude to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude…
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so, it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.” Charles Swindoll
I love this quote by Charles Swindoll because it is an important reminder that no matter what happens to us, how we react to it can make all the difference. I like to share this quote with my students because I want them to understand that learning how to play an instrument will have some challenges. There will be times when it seems difficult and frustrating. But with a positive attitude, we can get through any challenges and create beautiful music together.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am what you might call a “teacherpreneur”. I run a successful piano studio and have been teaching for over 30 years. I have a creative style of teaching and am always looking for ways to inspire and motivate my students.
In 2009, I started a blog for my piano studio. I enjoyed writing, so a year later I decided to start a blog specifically to help other music teachers. I wanted to share some of my creative ideas I was doing with my students. At the time, there weren’t many music teacher bloggers, so I was inspired by the few that existed and decided to try it out.
Fast-forward and I have created and run a successful online business that offers creative resources for music teachers, helpful articles, music teacher tip videos, mentorship and online courses.
I continue to teach as my students are my inspiration and I love teaching. Running two businesses can be challenging at times. I am a creative soul and have more ideas and desires than time. But both are things I really enjoy doing. And how blessed am I to be doing two things I love?
They say, “find something you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life.” I agree with part of that, but also know that even things you love can require work. So I say, “find something you love to do”. The work will be there, but the key is finding that work/life balance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One place that is unique to where I live is the music instrument museum. The great thing about this museum is you don’t have to have a musical background to enjoy it. If you like music, you will enjoy the experience and learn a lot from it. It is an immersive experience that can last for hours.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have played an important role in who I am today. My parents were always supportive and encouraging of my musical talent, which ultimately led to me being a piano teacher. My husband, who has always been supportive of my goals and ideas. My kids who patiently heard music all day as they grew up. My colleagues, most of whom I would call my “teacher friends”, a continued support in my journey. And my students who continue to inspire me. I am thankful for each one as I wouldn’t be who I am today without that support.
