We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerell Irving and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerell, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started my business, Humble Events AZ, I started in a time when the world needed a bit of change. We started the event planning / coordination company in November of 2020 in the middle of this pandemic. We started with the idea of allowing people to get outside and enjoy nature with family and friends. We wanted to begin to bring people together and have them start reconnecting, and bring joy back to their life. So we started offering pop up picnic experiences. We knew that the more time people spent together, the better they would feel. We were able to provide a safe and happy environment for our clients and their family or friends. We also knew that people love a more unique and luxurious environment so we aimed to provide them with the best experience we could provide. Setting up an affordable and luxurious event, from fine china to gold cutlery we knew this would be life changing details to clients. By bringing luxury to every event we do, big or small we spared no details. We insisted to make the experience a happy and joyous memory for our clients and their guest. So they could remember something positive in a time that is much needed. We wanted to make it a comfortable and easy way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, date night, girls night, child’s birthday, baby shower, proposal, you name it we hosted it. We wanted to make an easy, comfortable experience that allowed you to just show up, with out the hassle of having to plan the large or small event yourself. It is our passion to create a space that allows you to be comfortable and have an amazing time without putting together every detail. We live for this and absolutely love to create for our clients and make memories that they will talk about from time to time. Going from something so horrible in the world to happy memories we wanted our clients to just feel relaxed, free, and happy for each memory they created. We have evolved the company into so much more than just picnics because we want to make every moment enjoyable. So we know that each event we are involved in is created with love and thought.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would arrive and check into our Air bnb or VRBO. We would go eat at the mission restaurant in Scottsdale have some great tacos. Then we would head back to the house to get an early start on the day. We would wake up and go to Jewels café for some gluten free chicken and waffle. Then we would go to a Yoga class at blue buddah collective. go back shower and go to lunch at delish. We would then head over to Top golf for some fun. Then we would hang out back at the house until it was time to go to the movies over at harkins theater.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out a few different people along the way who have motivated me to keep going and continue to evolve as a person and business women. First I want to thank is my family everyone from my mom, dad, husband and sisters to my cousins and friends. Each person plays a role in keeping me going and motivated. They have stayed up late with me making sure every element is completed for each event. They have helped out with different set ups and events. I also want to thank my personal mentors who have pushed me to become a better and stronger person through self work and mental work as well. Another is a mentor I had in another job I was doing and was a big influence in my overall growth and motivation. Also thank you to those mentors who give free advice through tips like Youtube, Instagram, and other platforms. It helps when you are just getting started to see others who have been in your same position and are able to make systems for others to follow. Also big thank you to Karen from Blue Buddah Collective for allowing me this opportunity to have this interview. Also all those who have supported or promoted my business to friends, family or just mentioned it. Also to my clients thank you for trusting me in making your event special.
