We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill O’Leary and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, how do you think about risk?
I am a true believer in that the only regrets you have in life are the risks you didn’t take! I’ve started three businesses over the past 22 years…the first one in Santa Barbara, the second in Fort Worth, and then my most recent launch here in Tucson. I never thought for a minute that I couldn’t make these businesses into successes. And I had to take the risk; otherwise, I would always wonder ‘what if.’
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I thought when I moved to Tucson in September of 2019, that I was retiring. Then Covid hit, and I discovered I missed the challenge of working, especially in the food industry. I knew I didn’t want to cater again, and suddenly ‘charcuterie’ popped in my head. From all my years as a caterer, I knew about food design, garnishing, food safety, etc. I wanted to support local small businesses when possible, so I found a wonderful artisan to make my boards. One Facebook post and a week later, orders started coming in. I think what sets my business apart from others is that I always strive for perfection and top-notch quality in my product…something they are excited to share with others!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As I’m a newbie to Tucson, I’m not very familiar with a lot of places, but from what I do know, here’s what we would do: Tohono Chul
Sunday Farmers’ Market
Wild Garlic Grill
Happy Hour at the Westward Look
Cherry fritters at Donut Hole
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to my brother (who lives in Tucson) for always being so supportive of me.
