We had the good fortune of connecting with Jim & Kat Garrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jim & Kat, what do you attribute your success to?
We work very hard to maintain high standards by using the best suppliers and trade techniques to produce a high quality, local product. It could also be attributed to our end vision of giving our community a local source of these superfoods, that are sustainably grown. That intention keeps us focused and on track with why we’re doing what we’re doing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a Certified Naturally Grown farm, growing microgreens here in Tucson. We provide microgreens for 15+ restaurants in the Tucson area and also deliver to local Tucson residents. What sets us apart from others is our huge variety and the quality of our greens is top tier. We are proud of our environmentally friendly practices, such as reclaiming gray water, feeding our cuttings to our chickens, using the Deep Litter Method of composting by our chickens. and using solar power. Family is the backbone of this business. We work many hours a week together and share the workload to get in all the orders and all the planting done on time. It’s not easy sometimes, but because we all pitch in, we get it done. We also are fortunate to be able to hire part time help when we need it, and as we have grown, we are needing it a lot more these days. We plan to expand over the course of this year and next and hope to hire more help soon.

We have learned so much since starting this business such as knowing your personal limits and balancing that with the rest of your life. Finding balance when you work 18 hours a day sometimes is difficult. Carving out time for fun, for mental health breaks, for time with family away from work is extremely important and necessary. We want to spread the word about how extremely valuable and life changing these superfoods can be to people, such as helping reduce inflammation and increasing blood oxygen levels. The have medicinal value that everyone can benefit from. We are so proud to be providing this healthy resource in a sustainable way right here in Tucson!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We, of course, love the restaurants we provide our microgreens to and highly recommend them often. Other than eating out, we highly recommend the Gaslight Theater in Oro Valley for entertainment. They have great prices and really fun shows. If you are outdoorsy, the 50 Year Trail in Catalina (15min north of Tucson) is a scenic mountain biking trail that has spectacular, up close views of the Catalina Mountains. And you can’t go wrong with the Desert Museum when the weather is nice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dave & Stacey Raneri, owners of The Oracle Patio Café & Market, in Oracle AZ. They were our very first customers and carried us through our first year in business, which happened to be 2020 when all the other restaurants were shutting down. They remain one of our best and favorite customers to this day.
