Meet Jonathan Ham | Internet Entrepreneur, Personal Trainer & Retired Collegiate Gymnast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Ham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, how do you think about risk?
I see taking risks as opportunity to learn and figure something out that might work down the road. Most of the times I have taken risks in my life I have ended up in a different place I sought out to go. Once you dive in to something you learn things you didn’t know before which causes you to make different decisions than you might have otherwise made. I think that taking risks and “Doing” is one essential components of success in anything. At some point you have to test your thesis out and the only way to do that is to take action and figure it out along the way.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
One of our businesses is “Turquoise House Scottsdale” – a modern collection of vacation rental homes in Scottsdale. Our typical guests are families traveling with a couple kids, a grandparent, and maybe a dog. We have clean, updated homes with their own private swimming pools, putting greens and we try to provide a resort-like experience to all of our guests who travel from all over to experience all of the great things Scottsdale has to offer. There have certainly been challenges along the way, which is normal in any business, and it certainly has not been easy! As a rule of thumb we try to fix problems before they happen – whether it is an older roof, A/C, or water heater, we do our best to foresee problems before they happen and address them. It definitely pays to fix them on day one before there is an issue. This prevents late night phone calls, needing emergency plumbers, electricians, etc. Most importantly, it keeps our guests’ experiences positive from day one. There is nothing worse than having a poor guest experience, and there is nothing better than having a positive guest experience that converts into a repeat booking down the road. From day one we have been obsessed with the customer experience, making sure all the little details are thought of so that our guests are comfortable, relaxed, and have a wonderful time on their trip. To us, our homes are extensions of ourselves and we want our brand represent the core values that we hold dear.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I can’t say enough positive about the OdySea Aquarium! How great is it to see sharks, seals, sea turtles, and so much marine life in the desert of all places! The whole complex is great for families year round for eating and entertainment. Also great for the family is indoor go-karting at Octane Raceway and they have a nice restaurant to grab a burger and a beer after racing. For Restaurants, we like Dominick’s for a steakhouse, Oregano’s for a casual family meal, and I personally love OHSO brewery for fine craft beers.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Too many to list! Parents, Family, Coaches, and Friends have all played a critical role in my development. The most credit must go to my Wife Carissa who has not just supported all of my ambitious ideas, but has pushed me to reach further, try harder, and explore more.
