We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Bender and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My Father owned his own business for a good 10 years of my childhood. Even when he was working for an employer, it was usually contract work. He would have his entrepreneurial ideas that he would chase during said work. No matter how they ended, it was always an adventure and he would let us kids help out in different ways, He put his everything into any idea he perused, so it showed us that you really can do anything you set your mind to. By the time I was 14, I had a landscaping hustle with multiple neighbors who hired me to do their weekly maintenance. I was building websites for multiple clients. I was working for my Dad as a production assistant at a TV Show and was managing a band and had multiple other side hustles going. The few “normal” entry level, or even lower management jobs I had, never lasted long. I had trouble not thinking about how I would do things differently. I always had a side business going, that usually made more money then my hourly position. I apprenticed and did my time learning all the trades. Even that work I was still my own boss, so it was easy to stick through. But as soon as I was qualified to become licensed, I knew that with a lot of work I could run a pretty successful remodel company that cared more about quality, customer experience than a good majority of the companies I worked for or did contract work for through those years. I had a lot of background in things most contractors didn’t, and it quickly set me apart. Although it was risky investing thousands into my business, I had no choice but to succeed to keep food on my wife and children’s plates.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t know if all would consider it art, but over the past couple years I have been getting into Interior design since it goes hand in hand with remodeling. Clients always ask me for advice, so I started learning what colors go together, how to keep a design uniform to a specific style. I actually just opened a sister company called Design by Benten. It’s a design Center/Showroom, where I have interior designers, an architect for blueprints and city permits, we also are now an authorized dealer for a large handful of different cabinet/countertop/flooring & more material manufacturers. I even have a software that I can build out my clients new kitchen or bathroom designs in 3D, they’ll also be able to walk through their future remodeled space in our virtual reality goggles! I still have a lot to learn about design, but my trade work and the design we bring to it is definitely an art in my eyes. There’s been many lessons, but the difference between me and other contractors, is we always make it right if something doesn’t work out. We want to be proud of the final product every time. Your name is all you have, so we do everything we can to keep and grow our 5 star only reputation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Maybe a trip to see Arizona. Grand Canyon, Sedona, Horseshoe bend, antelope canyon, Jerome (Haunted Burgers), Camp Verde (Zoo Zipline).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, is my rock. She encourages me, loves me and is so understanding. She is a stay at home mom with our two daughters. They are who I do it for. Even with the long days and customer calls on the weekends, they’re always there to support me. I couldn’t say just one person though. My mom, dad and my siblings are so supportive too. They believe in me and have helped me get to where I am now.
