We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Coronado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had a friend pass away before I could start my business he was my main inspiration to start making fingerboards. Skateboarding and great friends at Desperation skateboards also where great motivators in the start of my business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This craft is a labor of miniature skateboarding and being creative with it there is no wrong way to fingerboard only fun ways. At the beginning I had no idea what I was doing I was just trying to figure out what I needed to make a less expensive fingerboard that didn’t cost $50. My idea was to make them just for myself not to sell because who would want anything I make that’s what I thought. As I sharpened my skills friends started to take note on how awesome they looked and wanted to buy them. In a year after I started my business I took a trip to California to make connections with other people who made fingerboards and where more established in the business. The trip was a total success after meeting awesome companies I came back with knowledge and connections more people started to notice my company.
One lesson I have learned from all of this is to be humble and make connections that turn to life long friends because in the end it’s all about having fun.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends stop by from out of town we throw events that involve company sponsors that will provide for raffles and giveaways. This is also a perfect opportunity to meet up with everyone in the AZ community that is involved in fingerboarding. We also have meetups that are fun and a great way to meet new people in the community.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thanks to my fiancé Becca, our kids, family and friends that support my business also all my great customers that have supported me over the years they are a big part of my company growth.
