We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliet Burgess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juliet, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
A dear friend (who loves accessories as much as I do) once gave me a birthday card with a beautiful stiletto heel on it. Next to it read the words: “Cinderella is proof that a pair of shoes can change your life.” I love this quote because I believe fashion is a powerful form of communication and is often underestimated in business and life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love that employment law is always changing and enjoy learning about modern workplace issues. For example, over the past few months my practice has addressed legal questions regarding: the enforceability of confidentiality agreements in sexual harassment claims; whether music with offensive language can be played in the workplace; revising dress codes to address extreme temperatures; the impact of domestic violence in the workplace; artificial intelligence and the risks of discrimination; whether texting an emoji can form the basis of a contract; and whether employers may ban clothing with a political message during election season.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Many people know about the Valley’s golf and special events, but I think the “arts” scene here is really cool and is often underestimated. For example, I am always excited to show friends the art galleries in Scottsdale and the Arizona Costume Institute’s featured fashion exhibit at the Phoenix Art Museum. This summer I was able to enjoy the “power of pink” Barbie collection with my fabulous 95-year old grandmother, sisters, daughters and nieces which was was really special. I also am a big fan of broadway and love seeing shows at the Phoenix Theater Company, Arizona Broadway Theater, Ballet Arizona and ASU Gammage. For a delicious cappuccino or cocktail on the way home, I would recommend visiting the Global Ambassador Hotel. The view of the city at sunset is marvelous.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My grandfather Jack influenced my love of fashion and passion for business. My grandfather worked in the garment industry in New York city and traveled up and down the east coast for sales meetings regularly. My sisters and I loved it when he would bring us samples sizes to try on from the factory. To him “image was everything.” I can always remember him telling me to “dress sharp” and to wear your “collar up.” He was also one of the most generous and supportive people I’ve ever known.
