We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Almutawa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I feel like a lot of people are unaware that as a hairstylist we are often our own small businesses. Also, by purchasing retail products from our salon you are not only supporting a local business but the retail lines then support the small business by offering continued education. Stylists are constantly continuing our education – staying up to date on the latest coloring, cutting and styling techniques, so that we can keep our clients looking their best.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would have to say communication and consistency are everything when it comes to the success of my brand. Possessing the ability to communicate effectively with different personality types and communication styles enables me to best understand what my clients are really looking for, and make sure we are on the same page at the end of a consultation. Maintaining consistency and always showing up for my clients with that same level of communication each and every appointment keeps things fresh and ensures they don’t feel like things are getting stagnant.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of the main things I love about Arizona is that no matter the time of year there are always so many things to do and see. I would recommend getting an early start to your day – exploring the desert via a hot air balloon ride at sunrise with Hot Air Expeditions. Then a day enjoying one of the beautiful and fun resorts, such as The Montelucia or Hyatt at Gainey Ranch, lounging by the pool or getting one of the most relaxing massages. Then for dinner I would recommend The House Brasserie, a quaint restaurant with a Victorian-era-inspired decor and a seasonal menu. The Americano for the must-try Vesper cocktail. Then end the evening with a play or musical at the Gammage theater in Tempe or a comedy show at Stand Up Live.
