We had the good fortune of connecting with Karin Laniado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karin, how do you define success?
For me Success means to get up every morning and keep doing what I love the most, Taking an idea and turn it into body art. I think that tattoos could significantly increase self esteem, in addition to boost up your confidence.
“Choose a Job You Love, and You Will Never Have To Work a Day in Your Life”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe tattoos can heal your soul, they can boost self-confidence. What sets me apart as a tattooist is that I was born with a huge birthmark all over my stomach, which caused me immense insecurity for the reason that I was more often been asked questions, such as if I got burned or what was it exactly.
I’ve never worn a swimsuit out of fear and insecurity. At the age of 24 I did a tattoo on my birthmark, and only then I realized just how much power a needle and ink have to change lives. From insecurity to self-acceptance.
I think that I get tattoos from a slightly different prespective view out of my life experience, it healed a part of me so it’s also important to me that my art completes my clients. Who knew that my art will eventually becomes a part of them.
Most of the tattoos I do have a huge significance for each of my clients,
It’s important to design tattoo with an emotional value.
If there are any scars that show a difficulty in the client’s life and he has overcome that difficulty, if he is interested in repairing, I am there to turn the trauma into a gift, a milestone.
I only came across in the field at the age of 30, after drawing all my life and not believing in myself enough, to do what Iv’e always dreamed of, now I dedicated to the goal.
From early learning all the necessary fundementals, I’m still continue to developing my skills set.
I want the world to know that every dream can come true, we do not live forever, so it is important to always do our best in order for us to become the best, so that imprint will be what we shall leave behind us as an unforgetting memory, just like art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a new arrival in Vancouver, so far it’s amazing, the views are insane!
There are so many places to check out here!
First I would go to “cactus club” to eat, than go out to a gay Bar in down town, with #camtastik3camigos, my best friend here, for a few drinks.
Fly over Hawaii is an awesome experience,
I love grouse mountain for ski,
Capilano bridge
And hiking together with my family on north shore.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to thank my husband, best friend and lover, Moty laniado. He was the one who always been there for me, keep challenging me to thrive outside of my comfort zone. We belive we can make all of our dreams come true! “Be the change you want to see in you life”. (Mahatma Gandhi). I would also like to thank the owner of “No Filters Project” The most amazing and talented Photographer I know, Arthur Abramov, for the opportunity to participate and model in his project.
