We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelyn O’Dowd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katelyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve been in the restaurant industry since I was old enough to work. I have made some great relationships and met some amazing people, but I’ve come to a place in my life where I want to do something that truly brings me joy. I’ve always had a passion for photography, but that passion really grew after having kids of my own. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to capture all of life’s precious moments that you can cherish forever. Being able to spend more time at home with my family whilst being able to utilize my creative mind with something I truly love was a no brainer for me. I want my kids to see me follow my dreams, so that they aspire to follow theirs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe that the most important factors behind my success are my perseverance, my passion, and the ability to be true to myself. Within this community, there are so many different styles and so many different ways of editing. It’s easy to get down on yourself when comparing your work to others, but at the end of the day I tell myself that it’s my art – it’s what I find beauty in!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend and I are foodies! We would spend the entire week finding delicious cuisine. My favorite place to eat and drink is central Phoenix. I feel like all of the cutest spots are downtown. We would probably drive up to Sedona to do some hiking and sit back with a bottle of wine and watch the beautiful Arizona sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and kids are my inspiration

. My best friend, Moriah, is also in the art community and she has pushed me so far out of my comfort zone and I thank her so much for that.
