We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly and Matt Megyese and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly and Matt, how do you think about risk?
We tend to approach risk as an opportunity – whether that be to grow, change, or enhance something. The right support can help minimize the risk, but regardless we’ve learned that while jumping into something could be a mistake – it may also prove accurate instincts. We balance our decisions, knowing that the direction we take may change in the future. Not trying is the biggest risk and we feel it is a chance for regret.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The fitness industry is saturated and rather than entering into a franchise situation or starting with our own brick and mortar, we saw an opportunity to devise a business model that’s different. Illuminate You Fitness, or IYF is a mobile barre studio offering online live classes for wherever you’re located, as well as flexible on-site class locations (through collaboration with other businesses) in Phoenix, AZ. We also saw an opportunity to bring the right equipment to our clients as a way to help enhance their workouts and take them to the next level. We are an affiliate for various accessories – maintaining a shoppable list of products on our website to enhance anyone’s barre practice. What we wear and how it makes us feel plays a big part in achieving a healthy lifestyle. We believe the quality, form, and function of ZYIA products complement our mission and we’re proud to be an Independent Representative for this active apparel line. Still a new company, we continue to evolve our services by listening to our clients and are constantly adapting to the rapidly changing world.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
We work hard so we can play harder. Taking advantage of the stunning Arizona terrain – we enjoy hiking. Being nestled in the foothills of South Mountain, we spend a lot of time at the Desert Foothills Trailhead. We also enjoy Camelback, Superstition, and Four Peaks as other beautiful options. We spend a lot of time enjoying the various restaurants, bars, and breweries the area has to offer. Most of our time is spent sharing our love with others at places like The Whining Pig, The Living Room, Ghost Ranch, Hidden House, and Spirit House. We also like to take advantage of touring many of the great breweries in the Phoenix area – Wren House, Shop Beer Company, Goldwater, and Helluva are some favorites. Music is important to us and we always look to create memorable concert experiences. Our favorite venues are smaller – The Rhythm Room and Crescent Ballroom for example. Music In The Garden at The Desert Botanical Gardens is always amazing – especially when our favorite local band, Jared & The Mill, is playing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We come from families that have demonstrated both a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Their collective experiences help us to determine what’s possible while we navigate the learnings of running our own company. As a new small business, our clients also deserve a lot of credit and recognition. Our story is being written because of them – their support and feedback are consistently being considered to help evolve the services we provide.
