We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Breeze and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Focusing on one project at a time has made a huge difference.
In the creator economy, it’s easy to be distracted by the countless opportunities available. For example, in the past I attempted to launch multiple YouTube channels, create an online course, and write an eBook simultaneously.
Despite setting aside time for all these ventures, none of them were successful since I couldn’t give any of them my full attention. I wanted to work on multiple projects at the same time as a hedge against one or several of them failing, but I spread myself too thin to succeed.
Finally, I decided to go all-in on reviewing budget smartphones on my YouTube channel, while dropping everything else. As a result of this change, I was able to work on this one project on a consistent basis and it eventually grew to a level that’s able to support me full-time. That process took about a year.
Now that I know what it takes to maintain this business, I can set aside time to move onto the next venture.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It’s been an interesting journey. I create videos about budget and prepaid smartphones, which is a niche that is often overlooked. YouTube is my primary platform, but I also post content on a variety of other platforms too!
I’ve been a full-time tech content creator for about four years now and I’ve learned that it’s essential to always be willing to evolve and adapt as online trends continue to change. I’ve also gained a sizable audience over the years and recently celebrated 160k subscribers on my YouTube channel.
Whether it’s a video, tweet, or Instagram post, my goal is to serve my audience. In addition to reviewing the devices and comparing them to their competition, I also create ‘how to’ videos, tutorials, and other useful content so people can make the most of their mobile devices.
While it has been a challenge to go from zero to where I’m at today, I’m fortunate to have the process down to a science where I can essentially ‘rinse and repeat’ and continue to grow, while also providing the best quality content. I enjoy what I do and it never feels like “work.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve had a chance to experience quite a bit as a resident of the Phoenix area for more than a decade. Outside of what I do for a living, golf and basketball are two of my passions. There are tons of golf courses all around and I do my best to play at least a few times each month. I’m also a fan of the Phoenix Suns and enjoy attending their games when I can.
In addition, Old Town Scottsdale and Mill Ave in Tempe are great places to relax, sip on a cold drink and eat delicious food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I appreciate that there’s a large community of fellow tech content creators who have supported me from the beginning. While we all technically ‘compete’ with each other, the creator community is all about building each other up and working together so we can achieve more than we can individually.
In addition, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without the support of those who consume the content that I create, and their feedback which allows me to continuously improve my craft.
