We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly “Tenacious T” Tocco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly “Tenacious T”, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When I set out to actually pursue real estate, it was with no more then the money that filled my change jar. I had to come up with ways to stand out and show who I was above and beyond just another face in the Sea of Realtors. I began to get creative and use ideas from Super bowl Commercials and my favorite movies to post on SM and my ADs. I stuck to who I was as a person and showed my creativity and personality all while offering a portion of my commission back towards closing costs for specific groups. Teachers, First Responders, VA etc all received rebates from my commission and I stayed consistent, even when I felt it wasn’t working! After a while I began to notice people calling me Tenacious T. Once I realized my “brand” was becoming a recognized name and never looked back.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Through homeownership or sales, I help families who have been through hardships start a new chapter. It is only when we understand the darkness can we lead others to the light. This has been my focus and drive. 2 years after we lost our 13 year old son to suicide, I found myself sitting in a crappy rental, my husband working himself to the bone to provide for his 3 remaining children and a wife crumbled up in sorrow and grief. I had to change those circumstances, for them, for myself and for my son. Shockingly, I could not find an agent who would take the time and help us figure out a way to qualify for a loan and find a home we could afford. We had a short sale not yet two years behind us and a bankruptcy just one year but we qualified under the guidelines of extreme extenuating circumstances to get a loan…if we could find a lender and an agent to assist us in facilitating. So I took matters into my own hands and pushed through real estate school in 18 days and passed the tests first try. Within 45 days I found a lender and a home and closed on it. Yet it was not the struggle that pushed me into this career, it was when I gave those keys to my husband, the look of relief, he had a foundation again, he had his legs underneath him again and I knew there was a need for someone like me in this real estate world. To date, I have given back over a half million of my own commission to help others like me and stayed true to who I am and base everything on giving back.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So let’s pretend we are in the middle of event season and there is not a pandemic…like 2019 lol. I would wake at 5am, throw us into my mustang and drive to Sedona for a magical hike and breakfast in the canyon. Sedona is one of the few places in the World with 4 vortexes, which are intensely energized areas. We would then head back to town and catch a fantastic Friday night at the Largest most luxurious car auction which began right here in Scottsdale. The famous Barrett-Jackson! By the end of the evening you would understand the alchemy and the luxury this valley has to offer. If we had an entire weekend, I would show you The Sicilian Butcher, Scottsdale Princess Resort, our beautiful botanical gardens and the Zoo. We would also enjoy a picnic horse back ride and volunteer at a food bank. We have 265 days of sun and each day is an opportunity to revel in the beauty and enjoy life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everything I have done in real estate has been to blaze a trail for my son and build a legacy of life instead of suicide. I realized two years after losing my 13 year old to a self inflicted gun shot wound that I could not sit and feel sorry for myself. My son deserved better then that and so did my husband and other children. I had a lot to say and even more to accomplish if I was going to be successful at eradicating the stigma of suicide and show others there is life after losing a child or surviving suicide. I really didn’t have anyone to go to because what I was doing was so different then the typical realtor activities. My husband is my coach and sound board. He has always been in my corner and supports everything I do. My followers have also been very kind and I love the support there. There are agents and business connections I look up to but I am proud to say what I have accomplished has been 100% on my own.
