We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Kauffman L.M.T. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, how does your business help the community?
MasPaz Massage, which means more peace, helps the community by planting seeds for self-awareness through massage therapy and meditation.

Massage is seen as a luxury and I truly believe compassionate human touch is beneficial for all. In addition to facilitating mindfulness with my clients, once a month, MasPaz volunteers to give massage in communities where many have never experienced compassionate human touch, have never felt what is is to be relaxed and are typically in a constant state of fight or flight.

I view massage as meditative experience: a moment for one to slow down their breath, become aware of the sensations in their bodies, calming their nervous system and tuning into their higher self. So many magical things happen when we tune into the present: we have reduced physical pain, we are able to cope with perceived stressors, and we are better able to make decisions, thus raising our consciousness and those around us.

In addition to receiving massages, it’s important to learn different ways to bring our body and mind into the present moment, so I host a women’s group to learn a new mediation technique each month including breath work, sound healing, qigong, and even planting flowers!

Self-love is contagious and it spreads, which is why I’m happy to take what I’ve learned on my journey of healing and share it with others.

What should our readers know about your business?
MasPaz Massage is located in Scottsdale, AZ. I specialize in a unique, ancient, meditative massage called Hawaiian Lomi Lomi. It’s both exciting and humbling to be able to create such an intimate, therapeutic space for my clients to connect with themselves.

Getting to where I am now was very unexpected and one of life’s greatest surprises that arose out of a dark time in my life. Before massage therapy, I was struggling with drug abuse, depression, anxiety, & self abuse. Being a client first and receiving a massage was actually the kick start to my self care journey and soon after I started counseling and learning tools to cope with depression and anxiety. I had never known what it was like to be relaxed and I knew immediately, I had found my calling.

One huge lesson that I’ve learned to is to be vocal and vulnerable. For me, there were so many in my corner willing to help, but were unaware of the pain I was in. It took courage on my end to be honest with myself, so that I could be . Now, because I am not afraid of myself, my past, or decisions I’ve made, I’m able to be vulnerable and help others with their challenges too!

MasPaz is a place created for healing, a space where my clients can be without judgment from themselves or others, a place where we facilitate enhancement of your physical and emotional well-being.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hole In The Rock at Papago Park– this place is special to me because it is where my husband and I got married. It has beautiful views of the city and is a easy hike for most anyone.

Encanto Park– especially if you’re traveling with kids, there’s paddle boats, an amusement park and a breathtaking landscape

Paradise Juice– for all my açaí bowl fans, hands down the best place for a healthy treat

Tacos Huichos on Thunderbird– if you’re obsessed with fresas con crema, go here and thank me later!

Meraki Kava Bar– when you want a healthy alternative to alcohol and coffee, come here. Great vibes and even better Kava and Kratom.

Donut Boats In Tempe– bring your snacks, drinks, and best playlist for some fun on the water in these donuts shaped boats with your friends

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge shoutout to my family who has always been supportive of my decisions, personal and professional! My amazing friends who are my forever cheerleaders. I’ve had so much help from so many people a long the way that I am grateful for. Two books that really resonated for me on my spiritual and professional journey are: Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav and Massage MBA by Rachel Beider
