We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristine Godinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristine, how do you think about risk?
I’ve always been a square peg and I don’t fit in round holes, so I’ve always bucked convention my entire life. I love adventure and that is how I think of “risks” they are just adventures to be experienced and savored. That goes in my professional life and in my personal life as well.
What should our readers know about your business?
I run a very successful private mental health practice called Aha Counseling AZ. I am also the author of two (soon to be three) books on escaping domestic violence/toxic relationships, and I have a successful YouTube Channel “We Need To Talk With Kris Godinez” that also addresses mental health/leaving toxic relationships. I use a great deal of humor and I swear like a sailor and I warn people about that, and the swearing actually makes me relatable as does the humor, it makes a very serious topic easier to digest. Business-wise I got here because I always wanted to be an author, I always wanted my own private practice and I always wanted to reach a broader audience, hence the YouTube channel. Was it easy? Well, yes and no, there were naysayers but you just have to kick them to the curb and trust your gut and DO NOT SETTLE or play small. The biggest lesson was to trust my own instincts. What I want the world to know is that you can get out of abusive relationships no matter how long you’ve been in one and that it is never too late to love yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooh! Arizona has so many wonderful places! My favorite restaurants are Nandos, Arizona BBQ, Bergies (Best coffee!!!) and Casanova Brothers. I would take my friend to Tombstone and show them the OK corral and the Birdcage, then drive down to Bisbee and show them all the cool little antique shops and The Copper Queen Mine and of course top off the week with a trip to the Grand Canyon. I’ve been there a million times and it never ceases to take my breath away. Stopping along the way in Jerome, Flagstaff and Sedona, all very cool little towns to visit!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband John, my colleagues John Nixon, Richie Grannon, Shahida Arabi, and my sister Terry and my friend Brenda Kohles all teachers and support!
