Meet Lisa Mozzini-McDill | Fine Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Mozzini-McDill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, what inspires you?
I think I’m most inspired by the bitter sweet beauty of the perfectly imperfect. I love little old broken down houses, alleys, anything with a mood and of course great light. When I paint trees they often stand for people and express a feeling or a rumination on some aspect of life. Clouds are also a favorite of mine to paint. Clouds can be very expressive and set the whole mood of a landscape. I look for a subject that has great light and can say something more about this limited life we all share.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I hope the the mood and emotions I seek to express resonate with viewers. I hope that perhaps many layers of meaning are discovered by the viewer. Do I even dare attempt to show the amazing beauty and bittersweetness that the great I Am has created? Gotta try.
Every artist has their own brushwork or calligraphy that is personal to them and sets them apart.
I am most proud of persevering through all the trials of life. I’ve learned it’s OK not to always be at ones best. Sometimes failing teaches bigger lessons. Sometimes just showing up is half the battle.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would show them The Montage Day Spa first then head over to The Art Festival and The Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. There they could meet many outstanding artists friends like Wendy Wirth, Michael Obemeyer, Jacobas Baas, Tony Salvo, Gil Dellinger, Amanda Fish, Jeff Horn, and many more. Closer to home, the wineries in Temecula are always fun as are the antique malls. Maybe on another night a baseball game at The Storm Stadium in Lake Elsinore. Then over the 74 to The beautiful San Juan Capistrano Mission. If this was a best friend there would be more days hanging out at my house talking around the fire pit looking at the lake and lights.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like first of all to thank Rick Delanty for recommending me for this interview. He is such an inspiration as a person and painter. When I began painting en plein air, the opportunity to paint with and watch signature LPAPA (Laguna Plein Air Painter Association) artists demo was a great help. I’ll never forget my first paint out with Jacobus Baas. I was so nervous. He asked me what was my focal point or why was I painting this scene? This was a revelation to me at the time and helped me to narrow down the information all around me to what was important. California Art Club has also been a great source of support and inspiration. They provide many paint outs and great demonstrations as well as lectures often by Jean Stern. Michael Obermeyer’s work inspires me and has been a sort of mentor through the years. Inaddition, the books by Richard Schmid and Kevin Macpherson have been an excellent resource. I’d like to give a shout out to Wendy Wirth who is a great painter in both acrylics and oils.
