We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Haneberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’m always trying to be unique and think outside the box. You have to take risks and not be afraid to fail in the photography industry in order to keep growing and to showcase your true self and brand.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most excited about how far I’ve come in a few short years and where I envision myself at in the future. I am completely self-taught in photography. It was not easy starting from nothing. I’ve had to volunteer my time and assist in photo sessions, talk to as many photographers as I can, and I’m still watching videos and taking courses in order to stay educated in the field.

There have been many times where I’ve wanted to quit due to seeing so many talented photographers out there. But I kept going, kept shooting, and kept investing in my business. I want people to realize how important it is to freeze time and be able to look back at a certain timeline in their lives. One of the ways to do this is with photos and videos. That’s why it’s important to me that people invest in getting photos done. If not with me, then with someone else.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh boy, exciting question! I love getting out and trying new things. We’d probably start out with a morning walk down by the river with coffees, then we’d get brunch/mimosas. Then we’d go to the spa and get massages and facials. Next, we’d go shopping and just walk around aimlessly for a couple of hours. After that, we’d find a good place to get a rice bowl and/or salad. Maybe after that, we’d take a small cat nap, shower, and recharge our batteries. For dinner, we’d go about 30 minutes away and get some good sushi or mexican food and have some red wine or maybe a blueberry moscow mule.

For the remainder of the week, we’d be hiking, taking walks, and biking whenever possible. We’d take yoga classes, rent electric bikes, go on a segway tour, visit a museum, take the kids to the playground and waterpark. We’d let the sun hit our faces and soak up life. We’d take lots of pictures to remember the awesome week we had together!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Tim. I told him years ago that I’ve always had a passion for photography. That Christmas, he bought me my first Canon camera. A few years ago, he surprised me by filling out the paperwork to make my photography a registered business. I’m not sure where I’d be today without those couple of loving pushes from him. I’d also like to shoutout my three young daughters. I continue to hustle so that they see where hard work, heart, and determination can lead you in life. They are my “why” behind everything that I do. I want them to be amazed by me so that they too can go out and do amazing things like I know they will some day.
