We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Boggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, how does your business help the community or world?
I think that the COVID-19 pandemic and general social unrest has shown just how vital safety and security is. Firearm sales have surged to record numbers as first time gun buyers decided to place a premium on personal safety. A responsible gun store like Alpha Dog Firearms takes time to find out the needs of what is driving an individual to purchase a firearm, whether it be their first or five hundredth purchase. We provide firearms, offer training, give knowledge and make sure our customers leave feeling good about their purchase so they can be responsible gun owners and valued members of the 2A community.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m in the firearms industry. There are almost 200,000 FFL’s (Federal Firearms Licensees) in the US so competition is pretty abundant. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve had to come up with some different ways to maintain our business and still offer premium services. I’m proud that Alpha Dog Firearms was one of the first firearm retail stores to offer a curbside service, offer appointment services, limit customers in store, and provide water and chairs to those that had to wait outside. Right now there is a huge demand for guns and ammo far exceeding current supply so we’ve also come up with an online special order system that guarantees someone the firearm they want before it goes for sale to the general public. I’m also proud that Alpha Dog Firearms has maintained our integrity during this pandemic, and while other stores and FFL’s have used this as an opportunity to raise prices and lower customer service, we have continued to offer our products at pre-pandemic prices except in situations where the manufacturer has raised our cost. Of course there are always challenges of trying to stay competitive in a retail environment. Gun stores in general are tough to market because of restrictions placed on guns and weapons on social media, television, radio, and other outlets. We have to rely on creative strategies to promote our business while also promoting responsible firearm ownership.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I know this will sound cheesy but I want to thank everyone in the Alpha Dog Firearms family. That would include current and former store associates, and all the customers that have made Alpha Dog Firearms a success. Everyone brings a different and interesting perspective to the store, and the knowledge that people have been willing to share has helped me grow as a human, manager, owner, and firearms enthusiast.
