We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghna Thacker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghna, how does your business help the community?
My business helps women and men to feel their best selves. That is literally the name of my business, FeelYourBestSelf.com Firstly, I want to make sure that I listen to my patients intently. A lot of them are frustrated because they don’t feel heard or they don’t have an option to discuss treatment options with their provider. They just have to receive what they have been offered, many a times a prescription that they don’t want to get started on. I like to order a thorough blood work up for all my new patients and then sit down and make a treatment plan together. The aim is to find the root cause of the problem and work on optimizing that rather than putting a band-aid on their symptoms.
Many-a-times the root cause can be a hormone imbalance. For example, an underactive thyroid gland will cause a person to have elevated cholesterol levels, constipation, hair loss, depression etc. The aim is to find that out by running a detailed thyroid panel (not just the TSH), and then optimizing thyroid levels before starting the person on cholesterol lowering medications or anti-depressants. This is just one example of many!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I took a leap of faith. It was March 2020, when COVID began and I had to take a couple months away from the office since my boys were suddenly home since schools went online overnight. Before this, my life was like a ride in the roller-coaster. I was part of a few practices, worked 8-5 pm, then rushed to pick up kids from aftercare and came home exhausted. Honestly, there was no time to think, just keep going on the ride everyday! Anyways, the “slowdown” between March to May 2020 when none of us knew what was going on in this World, gave me time to introspect. Made me think about my priorities and dig deeper into what I truly wanted to do. Deep in my heart, I always knew that I would be happy being a solo practitioner, doing my work which is caring for patients. I did not know how I would do it but I took the plunge with renting an office space. Followed by 1000 things to do to set up a business, fighting some battles, going through ups and downs, here I am, the happy owner of FeelYourBestSelf. I have learned that to be successful, you have to be consistent. You have to be available to your patients and their needs. You also need rules that patients need to respect and follow. I would want the world to know that I am happy to help you if you need my help to listen to your health problems and together, we can find solutions. I provide video consultations and you can book a Free 15 minute consult with me if you want to find out how I can help you. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am an Arizona girl and love everything about it. I will love to take my best friend paddle-boarding down the Salt River in search of the Wild Horses. I will love to take my best friend on a hike to Wind Cave or Wave Cave and talk about the desert plants on the way. I will love to take my best friend for an ATV Ride to the Box Canyon near Florence, AZ. Besides this, Sedona is a given for its breath-taking views of the Red Rock Mountains. I love supporting & eating at local small businesses that offer healthy foods and drinks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, a Shoutout to my parents who trusted me and my decision of becoming a Naturopathic Physician. It meant leaving my home in India and going to U.S. all by myself to fulfill my dream. Nobody in my family before me had ever left the city of Mumbai, let alone going 7 seas across. My parents made a very brave decision to let me go and I am forever grateful for that. Secondly, I am thankful for 2 mentors that play a huge role in me becoming the physician I am today. Dr. Gino Tutera, Ob Gyn from whom I learned all about Women’s Health & Hormones and Dr. Thomas Kruzel who by example taught me how to build a good practice with a foundation of care & consistency.
Last but not least, my loving husband who has always been my back-bone and pillar of strength. Even though we are opposite in many ways, he understands me like no-one else and always has my back.
