We had the good fortune of connecting with Mimi Kravitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mimi, how do you think about risk?
Taking huge risks has never been easy for me. But I think taking the risk to just “play” with materials has been freeing in many ways… to enjoy the process of art rather than necessarily the product. The art that does get made has been a culmination of mistakes. Loads of mistakes, but that’s how I learn. 

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I think I’ve always been an artist,and been drawn to people who think about things creatively. In my professional life,I am a clinical social worker in private practice.,
In that field,I’m forever interested in and motivated by the process of change.
How does it happen?
When does it happen?
What has to be the impetus for change?

Similarly,artistically,Ihave
always been fascinated by layers and change.

what happens if one color is mixed with others?

What changes if the light changes??
How do these changes alter the image.

As a young person,I always liked to make things…. That continued as a place of peace and interest as my “real” profession emerged.
Being in the process of art is my main way of taking care of my own wellness.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I think that the natural beauty is the piece of the area that is most amazing

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m extremely thankful for my family and friends who have supported me in my very circuitous path to my creative process. I’m grateful to my painting teacher,Sarah Kaiser-Amaral,and to the students in her studio class ,for challenge and inspiration.
