We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricky Beasley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricky, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
I think putting my music career on hold after having my first child and settling down getting married and raising my family

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my own music label called Sevenmile Records. It is independently funded by me in Detroit MI, we work hands on with our artists with promotions and creating different forms of music to release to the public hopefully to gain notoriety and possibly a major distribution deal. I started off working for the Steel industry working my way up to a salary position taking step by step funding equipment office space and different things needed to compete in the music industry. It wasn’t and still isn’t easy plus it’s very time consuming.I over came a lot of the challenges just by staying focused and taking my time thanking God for every little accomplishment whether big or small. I’ve learned to take my time work hard and you only going to get out what you put in. I want the youth to know that the streets is just a stepping stone to your next level in life so don’t get caught up and take life for granted

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being that it’s Covid I’m not hanging out as much but the Downtown area is really nice. We a probably have some lunch at joe muers, visit the summer set mall for some shopping maybe have a few drinks at adiamos maybe catch some live music at Willis show bar or Bert’s on broadway. Depending on the weather if it’s hot there’s plenty of concerts at Aretha Franklin amphitheater during the summer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think my mother and father and grandmother deserves a lot of recognition as well as my wife
