We had the good fortune of connecting with Samm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samm, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks, to me, is the essence of life. We’re out here to try new things and experience as much the world has to offer as we can. Everything you do, especially for the first time, is a risk. No matter the size of the reward everything comes with it’s fair share of risk. In my life specifically I’m working on being less cautious and taking on more risks. As a young man in his 20s I’ll never get to where I want to go without putting myself out there and really taking a chance.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music is one of few things I can truly be proud of. Though I haven’t even scratched the surface of where I want to be musically, it continues to be the outlet of emotion I didn’t know that I needed. I was a basketball player who has talent but didn’t get to achieve my “hoop dream” because I didn’t put the time required to do so. So when I picked up the pen & the love for this art form enveloped me I knew that I had to put my all into it. I wouldn’t make the same mistake so I make sure to never go a day without practicing my craft & honing my skills. I didn’t understand just how hard it is to not only create good music but to also market myself in a manner that people will actually get to hear the music that gets released. This whole thing is very humbling and it’s giving me the opportunity to practice patience and assume more risks.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tucson is a very underrated city and there’s a lot more to do here than a lot of us realize. There’s amazing restaurants from Rollie’s Mexican food too ATL wings. We have a fire fast food restaurant in Eegees which is always on the menu, an absolute must have especially during the hotter months. For fun there’s plenty of hiking trails on the mountains as well as the various bars and random festive events that go in downtown.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout would undoubtedly go to the very small collection of fans I’ve built up over these past 5 years. It’s those who still listen and show their support that really helps me continue creating and sharing my music. My friends and family all support me one way or another but it’s those that rock with me and have been rocking with me, even without me having to ask, that really keep me hungry.
