We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Lane Daly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin Lane, how do you think about risk?
I’ve noticed some of the biggest “risks” I’ve taken in life have led to my greatest successes. Even in the “failures” I’ve experienced from taking career risks, has only drastically propelled me forward. I think a lot of people look at taking career risks as being scary because of the unknown or the fear to fail. However I look at risk as not being scary when you’ve educated yourself in what you’re pursuing, thought through all the possible outcomes in what can occur, and bounce ideas off of other business owners you admire/respect their opinion. In the end, I’d rather “fail” than regret not taking the risk and wonder “what if”.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a photographer and videographer that specializes in weddings, couples, and branding for small businesses through warm, vibrant, and timeless imagery. I love capturing laidback, carefree couples organically and candidly. And branding- definitely my favorite part of my business! As a small business owner, I love encouraging and watching other small businesses flourish! Anytime I can be a part of documenting their successes, growth, investment into their own business is always my favorite thing!

Getting into photography/videography was not the easiest thing but the biggest thing holding me back at first was my mindset. I originally had the mindset that the field is oversaturated and there isn’t enough room or a need for another photographer/videographer. But as soon as I put that mindset aside and told myself to treat it like it was my full time business, my business boomed and beyond flourished. I truly believe that is what helped me go to making a full time income in 3 months. Your mindset can make or break your business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I just moved to Phoenix so I’m still getting to explore all the best spots myself. But currently I’d take them to Flower Child, Sedona, and anywhere in downtown Scottsdale. You can’t go wrong with Scottsdale!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Paul, has been my biggest supporter from the start along with my parents. I’d also love to thank my business bestie Emily Fuller for always being up for me bouncing ideas off of her, Mari (from Simply Desert Co.) for being my biggest encourager, Madeline Dulac who has been my number one cheerleader from the get-go, and Jesus Christ for answering so many prayers for me and my business.
