We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, do you have a budget?
I absolutely have a budget, for both personal finances and business finances. My husband and I would not be in this season of life without our budget. We’ve used a budget for many years and having that foundation allowed us to dream about what we wanted life to look like, pay off all of our debt, contribute to retirement more intentionally, communicate better, build a better legacy for our children, and bring a peacefulness to our lives that was missing for many years.
We allow ourselves to dream about life. Those dreams are what guide us. We make lifestyle and spending decisions based on our goals. “Will this purchase allow us to reach our goals?” “If we spend this money, is it in alignment with what we are working towards?” “Is this important to us?” We ask ourselves these questions often, to make sure we are on the same page and to keep accountable.
Our journey is the biggest reason why I started my business. I wanted to normalize the conversation surrounding finances and to provide realistic education to others.
What should our readers know about your business?
For many years, my husband and I were consumed with debt, had poor communication, no solid plan, and had forgotten how to dream…..
In 2008 I won a book called “The Total Money Makeover”. It was the first time I had read something that made sense, seemed easy to follow, and could maybe help us get our debt under control. My husband wasn’t convinced. When we started following the steps outlined in the book, I was too strict in following that plan, it didn’t fit the life he wanted, we fought a lot, had no accountability, and had Murphy keep showing up.
We paid off debt, saved money, incurred more debt, paid it off, you get the picture. After getting really frustrated with how things were going, we made a decision to make some real changes, and then committed to each other to follow through. In 2015 we started dreaming about what life could be like, what we actually wanted. How amazing it would be to able to do what we wanted without having debt payments and stressing about how we were going to pay for it. We learned how to communicate better and work together. We used out strengths to create a new plan and made adjustments as necessary. This was really important to us, to make it work for our situation. We added in accountability meetings so we could go over what was spent, how our behaviors were affecting our timeline to be debt free, check the progress of each goal and to celebrate the wins!
My name is Sarah Jones. I have 2 adult kids and have been married for 15 years.
Now my husband and I are 100% debt free and full-time RVer’s. The follow-through on our commitment to each other took us from tens of thousands of dollars in debt to debt free.
Through our journey, we’ve had so many others asking us how we did it. Asking for advice and guidance. Keeping Up With The Joneses Financial Coaching was born because I saw a need to guide others to a place of financial peacefulness and show them they could start dreaming about life again. I want to normalize talking about finances and bring financial literacy to the forefront of our lives.
Since 2018, I’ve been guiding people through their financial journey, witnessing the transformations take place, seeing money wounds get healed and helping lives change. This is so much more than numbers, it’ about building wealth and habits that last you a lifetime.I’ve helped businesses grow, increase revenue, change their culture, and become profitable. I started coaching business owners in 2020 when I discovered that so many, particularly entrepreneurs and solopreneurs were not paying themselves a living wage. They were working their tails off but not paying themselves because the “business couldn’t afford it”. To that I say ,”Absolutely not the case!”
I learn lessons every single day, from my clients, books, friends, neighbors, family. I want you to share your story and inspire others! I share my story to show YOU, you can live your dreams, no matter what your income is.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many great places to visit! Cave Creek is a favorite of ours. We love taking our friends ( on the motorcycles if possible) there to walk up and down main street, check out all of the local shops and then stop in The Horny Toad for drinks and food. We just drove to Tortilla Flat and loved the drive! We would definitely take friends there!
We love checking out locally owned places. The Dirty Drummer, The Co-Op, N-Dub, The Duce are a few of our favorites. We are newer to living in the area and are still finding our favorite places!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I absolutely wouldn’t be at this place in my life without some key players.
I have some incredible friends that supported me and my vision from day one. Often times, they believed in me more than I believed in myself. They pushed me, encouraged me, reminded me what I was working towards.
I have made lifelong connections with other financial coaches. I’ve hired some of them to help bring clarity and focus to my business. I talk with others weekly to send and receive encouragement. The other coaches I connect with are not competition but simply community.
My kids, Jaron and Jasynda. It is very cliche but true non the less. They are my biggest Why. I want to show them what it looks like to build your dreams; To follow what you believe; To push through when times get tough; To not settle. The legacy I/we are building is the most important piece to all of this.
James, my husband. We are in the best place together that we’ve ever been in. We say every single day how great life is. Without us working together, building this life together, we absolutely wouldn’t be here. What else can I say? Without him, I wouldn’t be in this exact place, and life wouldn’t be as bright.
