We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheila Leedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheila, what makes you happy? Why?
Listening to good music and going to concerts, going to the drag races, spending time outdoors in nature, being around animals, especially baby animals all bring me joy. Spending time with my best pal, hanging out with my family and friends also brings me joy. Travelling makes me happy, especially if I am headed to Scotland! Why? I suppose it has to do with the how I feel when I engage in any one of those activities. Music speaks to me in ways that are difficult to define. Drag races are just plain exciting! Animals, well they are able to express joy and love in such a simple yet profound way, I am blessed with good friends and family. We laugh a lot when we are together and as you know, laughter is good for the heart. Travelling brings a sense of freedom to me, even if it is a just a short weekend jaunt. I would be remiss if I forgot to say that serving the Spirit world as a medium of course makes me happy beyond words. It is an honor and a joy when I am able to bring a client and their loved ones in Spirit together.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I lead a double life, so to speak. During the week, I am employed as a civilian in a local Fire department in the support services department. It is a gratifying position as I feel I am doing something worthwhile and am able to give back to the community. The other half of my career is dedicated to being a medium, speaker and teacher. I have been on this spiritual path for nearly 40 years. I have been blessed to train with mediums from all over the United States, and other countries. One truly never stops learning. Becoming a medium hasn’t been easy at times. There have been objections and ridicule from family, friends, and sometimes life partners. Overcoming my own self doubt and fears has been my greatest challenge. Learning to trust yourself is a must as is perseverance and patience. In the end, I wouldn’t trade any of the experiences that I have had along the way as I feel it has helped to shape and strengthen me not only personally but as a medium.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Yay! A trip…well, I come from a family of good cooks and foodies, so let’s talk about restaurants first! The Phoenix metropolitan area has so much to offer. For casual lunches, we would definitely have to hit up Smash Burger for a hamburger and chocolate shake, and the favorite go-to in a pinch, Filiberto’s. Dinner options would be Byblo’s Mediterranean restaurant for shawarma chicken and pistachio baklava, and Princess Market and Deli for a deluxe hummus and falafel plate, last but not least, DeFalco’s Italian Eatery for baked manicotti. For sight seeing in the Valley, we’d go see the Desert Botanical Gardens, Phoenix Zoo and Papapago Park, World Wildlife Zoo, the Odysea Aquarium, Sagauro Lake, Canyon Lake, whew! Is it time to rest yet?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have encouraged me and supported me over the years, I won’t be able to mention them all. I dedicate this shout out to my spiritual teacher, Bobra Cleverly, Reverend. Dr. Norma Turner, The National Association of Spiritualist Churches, Sun Spiritualist Camp, Reverend Robert Copeland, The Arthur Findlay College, Jeanne Russo and family, Victoria McKnight, Jaci Gavnik, author Kim Richards for their unwavering support and friendship, and all of the folks at Fantasia Crystals.
