We had the good fortune of connecting with Sky Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sky, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Hard work and heading the advice of other professionals in my field.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Whether on a sketch pad, blank canvas, or brick wall, the urge to realize that anything is possible has always been a primary motivator for me. I began to find my way with art when I was 15 after inheriting an oil painting set from my Great Grandmother when she passed. The paints and tools I had previously used in school could hardly compare with the well seasoned professional set. I was hooked right away and thirteen years later, I still feel myself learning and aiming to get better with every piece. My paintings tend to blur the lines between the surreal and real, often taking on magical qualities that mix classical styles with futuristic themes. Painting never stops being interesting. It allows me to challenge myself and create new worlds and combinations of elements with every piece. I will never be the type of artist who reuses the same idea over and over again just because it sells. Instead, I view my style as ever evolving, with a focus on whatever I’m drawn to at the time and always with an open mind for what could happen next.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Northern Arizona is a fantastic area. Between Sedona, The Peaks, and Grand Canyon there is plenty to see.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my beautiful Fiancé Alexandra!
