We had the good fortune of connecting with Sky Nuttall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sky, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved the idea of running my own business, and I couldn’t think of a business that I would love more than my own photography business! Part of my decision to start my own business originated with the desire to set my own hours as we began our little family, and the other part came from my love of capturing special moments for people and beautiful shots of nature. I first started working as a professional photographer with a neat company company where I gained a lot of experience and saw great business models. After we moved I decided to start my own business in our new location here in Arizona. After I made that decision I have just enjoyed adding more to my business with simple steps over the years.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have loved how the pieces of my professional story have fallen in to place. I went to school to be a doctor, but came out an editor. I love tweaking and reviewing written content (books, curriculum, website materials, etc.) part of the day, while delving into my creative side with photography as well. My meticulous eye, both in written content and pictures, works hand in hand in my two different, but connected, trades. What started out as a hobby with photography, soon blossomed into a small business that I love! The hardest part about being an editor and a photographer is building up a clientele. This challenge is not cured overnight, but has taken a lot of continual hard work and patience. Even though this aspect of my professional work hasn’t been easy, I have really enjoyed the journey of meeting new people and building connections in some of the neatest ways! Nothing is more rewarding professionally than having someone reach out and say they heard your name from a good friend or colleague!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Arizona! The list of my favorite places to eat and spend time is very long! When I have a good friend come to town, I always start their visit in Downtown Scottsdale by browsing the charming streets and stopping in at the eclectic food places. Whether it’s delicious BBQ at Bootleggers, scrumptious tacos at Blancos, or a little bit fancier meal at Fat Ox, Scottsdale has many fine choices for dining! While we are there, the Riverwalk and Old Town streets and art never get old! I am also partial to the McCormick Train Park and Camelback Mountain hike! If the weather is nice, I love paddle boarding at Saguaro Lake and exploring fun trails nearby. If it’s baseball season, there is nothing quite like catching a Diamondbacks game as well!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have grown and developed so much from the guidance and example of Karen Mildenhall from KM Leadership Solutions. Karen is amazing and one of the most successful businesswomen I know! I wouldn’t be where I am today without her and her belief in me and my ideas. I am also incredibly grateful for my loving and supportive husband who helps me with the numbers and always encourages me to pursue my dreams and passions. I am very thankful for the wonderful friends and clients who have trusted me with capturing their precious moments!
