We had the good fortune of connecting with Skyler Bergstrom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skyler, how do you think about risk?
If I am being honest, leaving my comfort zone has been a risk I was always scared to take. As humans we tend to be creatures of habit and stay where we are most comfortable. When I look back at it, I am so grateful that I found the courage to take a risk and start my own business. In 2018 I graduated from Pima Medical Institute with a certificate in Veterinary Assisting. After working in the field for 6 months I quickly realized that it isn’t where I belong. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had the dream of wanting to help people. In the beginning of 2019, I stumbled across the Instagram page to a private training facility that was opening in Glendale, Arizona. Immediately I knew that being a Female Fitness Coach was what I wanted to do. In March of 2019, I quit my fulltime job and became self-employed. I went from having a steady income to wondering when I was going to get paid next. It was scary at first, but I knew I had to be all in with this decision. March of 2022 marks 2 years of being self-employed, working my dream job. Doing what scared me the most, made me the happiest version of myself. Was it easy? No. Worth it? Yes.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Skyler Bergstrom, and I am the owner of Define Fitness, LLC. As a personal trainer my goal is to help everybody become the happiest and healthiest version of themselves not only physically, but mentally. I believe that working out helps keep the body and mind healthy and happy. I specialize in weight loss, muscle gain, and mindful eating. When it comes to living a healthier lifestyle it’s not just about lifting weights and eating healthy, it’s also about stress management and healthy sleeping patterns.
Over the past two years, I have faced many challenges business wise. Starting your own business is the furthest thing from easy. My advice to you, is to keep pushing when it gets hard. Don’t give up. Keep a positive mindset and most importantly stay consistent. When you are passionate about what you do, you will find a way to figure it out.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things to do here in Arizona is exploring. When the weather is nice, I like to get out and hike. Walking the lakes in Estrella Mountain Ranch is a fun way for me to get cardio in and enjoy the outdoors. Sedona is also a pretty place to hike and walk the strip visiting all of the little antique shops. I also enjoy going to downtown Gilbert and eating at the restaurants they have.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to take a moment to recognize Baylee Pfister, because without her countless hours of encouragement, constructive criticism, love, and support I would not be where I am today. I also want to thank her for opening B PFITT GYM and creating a safe and healthy environment for me to train my clients out of. Having a mentor that is just as passionate, determined, and motivated as you are, helps make the transition easier. I will forever be grateful of the supporting community B PFITT GYM has created.
