We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonny Park-kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonny, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and brand would be my passion for my industry. I simply love everything about the beauty/spa industry. I love teaching about skin, skincare, and all the different modalities. I am apart of an ever changing industry that is always growing and changing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I created my business Spark Aesthetics to support the spa industry in consulting, training, educating and mentoring. I hold a BA in Business from SDSU and I have been a licensed esthetician for over 18 years.

The aesthetic industry is a very competitive market and when it comes to education and training, I believe in collaborating with the brands rather than competing. I always tell my students and colleagues that life is too short for us to compete, but rather grow together with love and support.

What sets me apart from others is that I work with some of the top brands in the industry such as Le Mieux Cosmetics, DermaplanePro, LightStim, and Oncology Spa Solutions. In doing advance training and education for the brands listed, I am able to blend each of them to create the best advance trainings for the clients to optimize their results to grow their business.

It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to be where I am professional today. Being successful isn’t easy and takes a lot of patience. Having a positive attitude has always helped me overcome difficult challenges. Also having the support from family, friends and colleagues has been the key to staying on track.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1: Santa Monica Beach – take a long stroll down the beach. Stop for lunch at my favorite lunch spot, Blue Plate Oysterette for some fresh seafood and wine. After to burn some fat, walk the 3rd street promenade and shop til we drop. After a little break with espresso head over to Korea Town and hit my favorite Kbbq, Quarters for dinner. If that’s not enough for the day, head over to a Karaoke bar to drink some Soju and sing the night away.

Day 2: Leoness Temecula – drive down to Temecula for wine tasting and lunch. After walk around downtown Temecula and go olive oil tasting. Dinner and slots at Pechanga Casino. They have one of the best Chinese restaurants. Go play some slots and win big.

Day 3: La Jolla Cove – Walk on prospect street and eat lunch at George’s at the Cove looking over the La Jolla Beach. After, walk over to Living Room Cafe for espresso. Dinner: Gaslamp

Day 4: Norco – Horseback riding. Lunch at Little Buddah Thai. Dinner at my house for some homemade Korean food.

Day 5: last day at Crystal Cove – sit on the beach and watch the wave. Lunch at Beachcomber
hike up the crystal cove – Dinner at Mexican Sol in Newport

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my queen boss, mentor, and friend Janel Luu the CEO and Founder of Le Mieux Cosmetics. She has been my biggest fan and support for over 18 years. Her love and dedication to the skincare industry inspired me start my own business and I will always be grateful.
