We had the good fortune of connecting with Sowmya Pelluru and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sowmya, how do you define success?
Success is when you can monetize the things you love to do, and invest the energy and time to turn it into a career that makes you happy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
manakii is a D2C women’s underwear company focused on inclusivity, sustainability, and impact across all touch points. By showcasing different women’s body types and stories in her brand, we built a space where all women feel welcome, valued, and empowered to take on the world. Our use of next-generation sustainably derived material sets apart the product while aligning with the needs of our consumers through intentional design. We anchor on manakii’s core value that comfortable, clean underwear is a fundamental human right. After learnings that underwear was the #2 most needed and least donated product in women’s shelters across the country, we combined our love for business with impact and decided to donate a pair of underwear for every pair sold. manakii empowers all women through the dignity of underwear so they can step into the world and build a life of their own with confidence. I want the world to remember that basic human needs are the core of our society’s thriving ability.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to get some time outside, so any hikes are always my go-to! A few lead up to a vineyard or a brewery, and I am biased towards those!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father is the person that immediately comes to mind. Since I was a kid, I have always been curious about the world. I wanted to try everything, learn everything and explore everything. He never put me down and always supported me. Whether it was driving me to debate competitions or signing me up for all the extracurricular, he was always my biggest fan.
