We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Aquilino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had worked for other people/companies in the past and was never quite fulfilled with it. I had been working in the motion picture business as a camera assistant for many years. I knew photography was where I wanted to be. I also knew that wedding photography could be something where I had the chance to be very creative, but also make a living at it. I had never had my own business so there was a lot to learn about being in business. I started with shooting some weddings for free to work on building my portfolio and build up my skills working with wedding clients.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Having worked in the film industry as a camera assistant for many years, I was able to lean about lighting and composition from some terrific cinematographers. When I started my own photography business, I brought that knowledge with me and applied it to my work. In addition, and most importantly, I try and bring a sense of fun and ease when I work with my clients. I hope that helps them have an amazing experience.

My wife, Trish, deserves so much credit for all of her support as I built my business. She was totally supportive as I learned my way through starting and running my own business.
