We had the good fortune of connecting with Sue Schurgin, CSW and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sue, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always been a wine lover. My vacations were centered around traveling to wine regions and my spare time frequently included wine and beer education classes. Sedona, Up the Creek and the Verde Valley had many group tour buses that mostly went to the Page Springs vineyard area, (We have over four different vineyard areas in the Verde Valley) but no tour company specializing in personalizing tours to a clients tastes while introducing them to the best and unique wines, beers and whiskeys that Arizona offers and having the availabilty to travel to all of the vineyards and tasting rooms in the area.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It took me a few years to build my business up to where I wanted it and was a tremendous amount of hard work, networking and social media posting. My tours were geared to offer an excellent wine and beer education, fun time and professional, diverse exposure to our unique Arizona wines while personalizing each tour. I have a real passion for what I do and have 5 star reviews across the board. My tours are very intimate and due to this, there is no way to social distance in my vehicle so I’m currently closed due to covid but hope to open back up next year.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many wonderful wineries, breweries and restaurants in Sedona and the Verde Valley. I’d take them to Elote Restaurant which is very unique, a hike along Bell Rock Trail since there are a variety of paths, many of the tasting rooms in Old Town Cottonwood, vineyards in the area; especially the Southwest Wine Center.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
After I started my company I took many classes at our Southwest Wine Center in Clarkdale, AZ which were excellent including wines of the world and CSW. Then, I took the online CSW, Certified Specialist of Wine class with Jane Nickles, from the Society of Wine Educators which was superb, after that, the Level 1 Sommelier. I achieved both my CSW and Level 1 and look forward to pursuing a WSET certification.
