We had the good fortune of connecting with Tajee Rosemond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tajee, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
YoungRose Design & Co. was born a labor of love, and has slowly grown into a small business. As a Single mother of two at the time, I had hit rock bottom. I found myself in a dead end job with no more room for growth. With a company that longer fits the needs for a single mother with two small children.

During this time I had survived the biggest storm of my life. I just escaped an unhealthy relationship, moved my family across the country and needed an outlet. So I turned to what I knew best. My craft. As a child I can remember making Easter baskets with my Granny and selling them. Decorating for weddings, making handmade wreaths for every major holiday. Redecorating the house, and making curtains. You name it we did it.

Very early on I knew I loved creating. I loved the rush it gave me to have a blank canvas and to just let my imagination run wild. Crafting, and creating became that positive but freeing outlet I needed, So I took my passion for my craft and my new found strength, and created a brand to support women, who just needed that extra push. That extra something, that you are, we are, I am ENOUGH! No matter the color of your skin, the shape of your body, your sexual identity, your mental state. The message is still the same YOU ARE ENOUGH, you aren’t alone.

The Idea behind YoungRose Design & Co. is to create a community of positive daily affirmations, that will bring joy, happiness, strength, courage, self care and love, with a hit of nostalgia. We are a Black-Owned Woman-Owned business. Each item that we create is handcrafted specifically with you in mind.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a military child, bouncing from place to place is nothing out of the norm for me. Unfortunately the same thing applies to my professional life as well. Very early on I’ve always been about my bag. Wherever the money was, I went. Elevating my skills each time. Taking bits and pieces from each job and mastering a professional “craft” and then it hit me. The ability to care for a person, understand and or related to a person, at the capacity I can is GOLD!!! and I took that and ran with it!

Let me tell you I have worked customer service the majority of my professional career. From Collections, Telecommunications, Marketing and Advertising, Sales, Property Management, Small mom & pop business and Obesity Medicine to name a few.

Each position has given me the tools I needed to develop and create my brand. Though it wasn’t always easy to push through full stem ahead, I’m grateful for the lessons learned along the way. It’s been times where I wanted to throw in the towel and call it quits. I have had some dark days where my thoughts will begin to take over and I’ll feel myself falling into a downward spiral, but quitting isn’t an option. Reminding myself of the end goal, I take each lesson, each experience with a grain of salt and apply it to my strengths. Without those challenges YoungRose Design & Co. would not be the brand it is today. Empowering women to Empower women through positive vibes and affirmations.

Even though we are small now, our message is mighty. Spreading Joy, Love, Happiness through things that make you feel better or whole, even if it’s just for a moment I am honored to be a part of that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite, spots! Now I am a complete foodie, so wherever the food is I will go. We are going to kick things off in the Emerald City, also know as Seattle Washington. A most go to place for all the tourists attractions would have to be Pike Place Market.

It’s the best place for fresh seafood, holistic vibes, and handcrafted items. Live entertainment and did I mention the fish throwing? This place is a whole vibe, you can catch the ferry boat over to one the islands check out the cute boutique’s, coffee shops and more. Get on the Seattle Great Wheel and see the City, from the top you’ll catch a glimpse of Mt. Rainer, Mariner’s Ballpark, and the Space Needle. Now lets talk about the The Loupe at the Space Needle. Have you ever been to restaurant with a revolving glass floor? No! Okay ladies now lets get in formation, put on that little black dress and blast off into orbit. 500 feet above the city, I mean the views are incredible, drinks, food, food , and food, what more can I ask for.

Now let’s switch it up a little bit and get dirty. I love A good adventure! Being raised by A single father/Marine Corps Vet an adventure always awaits. Pack up the cooler, load up the trailer, grab the sunscreen and a good pair of goggles we are hitting the dirt road. It’s nothing like a rush of adrenaline flowing through your body as you take to the open road. 4wheeling and ATV’s I’m an happy camper. My family likes to make a weekend out the adventures., so we will typically head up to beautiful Sedona , stay one or the resorts, and embrace all the city has to over. I can say moments like this, spending time with family is better in eyes than a “ hot girl” summer. During these family adventures we a stepping away for our day to day life , putting down the electronics, traveling down memory lane, building bonds, and making new memories.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Soooo I have a few people that have helped shape me into the Woman I am today.

1st person would have to be my Dad, he is the perfect example of when the world gives you lemons, you make lemonade. As a Single father he did the best he could, with the tools he had. I can say I get my determination from him. Once my mind is made up, it’s nothing to it, but to do it. I have watched my father overcome obstacle after obstacle. As a Marine Corps Vet, he instilled in me that knowledge is power, so get my education, discipline strength, and a work ethic out of this world, and because of that, this Little Black girl Originally from West LA can say I’ve had the pleasures of working with major companies only one could dream of.

the 2nd person would have to be My Love, My partner and soon to be Wife. Though we only met 5yrs ago she has been a major part of my growth and a shift into the business woman I am today. She has taught me that things take time, no need to rush. Be patient with myself, things will not always happen when I want them to, but they will happen, stay focused and do the work. She is a constant support and shoulder to lean on. Being an entrepreneur isn’t always a walk in the park, I have my tough days, and then I’m reminded of the reason why.

Last but not least, this one goes out to my children. They are the air in my lungs, the blood in my veins. Without them I’m not sure who or where I would be. They are the reason for it all, YoungRose Design & Co. all began trying to give them a better life. The end goal for me is to leave them with an empire, instill in them that you can do whatever you put your mind to no matter who you are and where you come from.
