We had the good fortune of connecting with Taryn Becchina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taryn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, I always wanted to be my own boss. Ever since I was little I wanted to run my own business. I have always had an “eye” for the shot and growing up I would always have these visions in my head of photos I wanted to take. I never acted on that passion until I got married and was choosing my own photographer. It just clicked, I wanted her job. I wanted to capture gorgeous photos but wasn’t sure I could do it. It wasn’t until my husband sat me down, pulled up the canon website and said “I’m sick of hearing you talk about your dream and not doing it” and made me order my first camera. (Self doubt gets in the way of a lot of things y’all. Don’t let it!!!) From there, it sparked like wildfire. I have never felt so motivated in my life to build something for myself. My business is like my baby. The success of my business is up to me and what I put into it, I love that. I knew I wanted to create, I knew I wanted to capture and I knew I wanted to do something I would be proud of…. So here we are, Taryn Schae Photos.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As far as my work goes I am most proud of how far I have come in this short amount of time. I feel that I have finally gotten to a point where I am truly confident in my work and what I bring to the table for client experience. I think what sets me apart is my dedication to my clients. They are the focal point of my business and are the reason I am where I am today. I want them to feel that because without them, I wouldn’t be here and I truly am thankful. I got where I am today by practice and asking a million questions!! Starting a business is hard, especially when you’re at square one and have no idea which direction to go in. So, fortunately, I found some awesome creatives that were willing to mentor me, guide me and give me all the great information I would need to start this adventure. Shoot, shoot, shoot because practice builds confidence and motivation. The best feeling ever is looking at photos you took while editing and being like “wow, I did that, I DID THAT!!”. It’s a good feeling to feel proud. You’re going to have some doubt, that’s natural but what you do with it will determine your success. You could let it eat you alive or you could add it as fuel to your fire and strive to reach your personal goals with more perseverance than before. That is the number one lesson I have learned so far. Taryn Schae Photos, my brand/business is more than just me taking pretty photos, it’s me investing in my clients. They aren’t just clients to me, they’re friends. I can’t tell you how many of my clients have become my good friends!! I love watching their journey even after our session. The relationship doesn’t end with a delivered gallery, I am invested long term! That is something that is so important to me and helps me build a connection with people! I’m rooting my clients on for life!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would personally say that Arizona is one of the most versatile places in the US. You can go from desert to amazing red rock, to gorgeous forests and cool hidden gems. So first of all we would definitely have to hit OHSO Brewery for Brunch. They’re dog friendly (I’m obsessed with dogs so major win), a local brewery and have amazing brunch. Then we would hit the road to cottonwood and check out all the local vineyards (always a wine lover). I take an annual weekend trip up there to the Tavern Hotel and vineyard hop to all the local spots. After Cottonwood, we would go for an awesome hike in Sedona. There is something so magical about Sedona & it is gorgeous!! Then we would head over to Flagstaff to visit Downtown. This is by far my favorite city in Arizona. There are so many great spots to eat, drink and hike around. A lot of my favorite breweries are up there too. Historic, Lumberyard, and Mother Road are musts. Strawberry would be up next with Fossil Creek. This is a popular summer spot and the views are incredible. It’s a decent hike up to the waterfall and so worth it! One of my favorite spots in Arizona. The Salt River is also a super gorgeous valley spot where you can tube, do gorgeous photos or just hike around. Arizona has so many things to offer and I love it!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Heck yes!! There have been so many people I could contribute my current success to. I didn’t do this alone. First of all, my husband, Jake. He pushed me into the deep end of this whole adventure and really got me going! Secondly, my awesome friends for modeling for me whenever I needed content or had a new idea to build my portfolio. Third, my fellow creatives that guided me, gave me endless advice, critiques and support along the way. Special Shoutout to Khali Titsch, Larisa Kaiser, Scott English, Coco Tingey, Arianna Flegel and so many more for helping me get this baby off the ground (all amazing photographers and people).
