We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia H & Terri R and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia H & Terri R, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Our sole purpose is to provide kids in foster care something that makes them feel seen and loved. When children are removed from their home and enter into an unfamiliar place, that is scary. Having a keychain with their name on it shows them that someone cares and that there is hope. We love to craft and this is a way to provide custom goods for small businesses while making a difference in the lives of foster kids.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When starting it was hard knowing what people really want, thankfully as foster parents we already had some familiar resources. Through trial and error, trying to connect with foster families we have learned to be flexible and self promoting. It has been important for us to keep our focus on the big picture. In the end, what is it that we want to accomplish? We have to know the path to get there can change, setting clear goals and having a mission statement helps to keep us focused and also allows us to measure our success. We want to provide hope for these children, some agencies have had a hard time believing that these personalized products are free of charge. In building these relationships we have had to learn to self promote because even though it is a small gesture, what we are doing matters.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The great thing about Arizona is that you can be outside so much. We love the communities in North Phoenix, Anthem and Cave Creek. Anthem is a great place to explore as a family and the Cave Creek, Carefree area provides a unique southwest experience.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
With the support of our local church communities our families were able to love foster children in our home well. Even though we are in a season where we don’t currently have foster children in our home our heart still breaks for kids who are facing the unknown. Through reading the Bible we are reminded of the hope that we have in Jesus and we desperately want kids to know that they are loved beyond comprehension. Through the support of our spouses, friends and church, in less than a year, we have been able to provide hundreds of personalized gifts to foster kids.
