We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Acedo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
How I think about risk is, without risk, there is no reward. All my life I have lived without apologies I know right from wrong, I have a good foundation and I’ve always been comfortable in my own skin. I grew up with a strong and loving mother and it made me who I am today. I’m blessed and grateful to be where I am and risk is something that we need in life to get through the hardest and the toughest times, it separates the strong from the weak. We take risks every day small or large and how we overcome each and every one brings some sort of reward. I opened my doors during Covid facing many obstacles but I am optimistic and have a positive attitude and I’m of the belief, if you build it they will come. I love what I do and it’s been my dream for over 20 years since I started in Dermatology. Taking risks does pay off.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an FNP and definitely got here the hard way, I started as an MA and while married with 2 sons and working full time, I worked full time 9-5 went to school 6-10 to get my LPN after a few years went back to get my RN, BSN then again another 3.5 years to get my Masters degree and FNP. Still went to golf, soccer and all the baseball games. I wouldn’t change it for all the riches in the world. An education is something no one can ever take away from you. Lots of bad jobs, working over night and lots of jobs I loved with many great memories but at the end of the day I am so blessed to be the owner of my own practice and to be doing what I love every day.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her to Tubac and explore, shop and eat at Elviras, the best Mexican food. We would go play a round of golf and hang out by the pool have some drinks. Definitely go to downtown Tucson and go dancing hang out with friends and just chill.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother Cassie Vandergriff for raising a strong independent but gentle woman
My Mentor Dr. Linda Ilizaliturri who showed me about hard work, dedication and taking risks
My Fiancé Frank Chrzanowski who without him I never would have had the opportunity to live my dream
