We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis Kruse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Travis, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
One thing about the pickleball industry that outsiders are probably unaware of is the sport’s average demographic. The large majority of pickleball players are “baby boomers.” With the courts being 1/3 of a tennis court’s size and the hard plastic whiffle ball moving at a slower pace, pickleball has become a very attractive sport to retirees and individuals over 60 years of age. However, pickleball is no longer coined as an “old person’s game.” Over the last five years, there has been a significant increase in younger generations adopting the sport. Pickleball provides an opportunity for players of all athletic abilities and ages to be relatively competitive in a short amount of time.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our company has developed the first automated, web-based solution for pickleball clubs and leagues worldwide. Since launching the program in 2014, over 45,000 pickleball players have joined TrackitHub to utilize the extensive capabilities that it offers. Our company, as well as the entire sport of pickleball, is still very much in its infancy. However, we are very excited for the next few months, as we prepare to launch the largest software update TrackitHub has ever released. Starting a company is never easy, but the anticipation of getting the company off the starting blocks provides daily adreniline and motivation. The first real test is when you begin to get customers. Focusing on steady incremental growth while constantly trying to stay ahead of the demand can result in some difficult learning experiences. My best piece of advice would be to constantly keep learning and researching. Borrow ideas from more successful companies, such as their workflows or marketing strategies. You don’t have to recreate the wheel. The information is out there, you just have to find it. If you’re doing anything right, you are going to fail…a lot! Be very selective of what you are allowing to rent space in your head. I have had more “flops” than I can count, but now I have a process that I go through. I analyze why my idea failed, how I can build upon the failure, and most importantly, I do not allow myself to dwell on it. As soon as a person understands that each failure is just another stair closer to the top, is when the fun really begins.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I thoroughly enjoy playing pickleball, but I also have a passion for golf. I would take my friends to Gold Canyon Golf Club- Dinosaur Mountain, Boulders Golf Club, and We-Ko-Pa Golf Club- Saguaro. Some of my favorite restaurants are Chelsea’s Kitchen, Buck & Rider, Steak 44, and Lovecraft.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without my parents, Gary & Lori Kruse, there is no TrackitHub. There is no success story. My parents are my biggest supporters and mentors. Growing up, I was very fortunate to have two people that cared about my future and paid attention to the small details when educating me on life lessons. Treating ALL people with respect and kindness was always at the forefront of my childhood. Also, being confident in myself while never losing my humility was reiterated consistently. Money is not an accurate measure of my success. The number of clients I help, friends I make, and people I have positively impacted are how I measure my success.
