We had the good fortune of connecting with Zack Lyman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zack, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Understanding what I wanted out of my career in comedy and deciding what success truly looks like. Having a mixture of goals some that might seem easier to reach mixed with goals that might seem crazy. This has lead me to growing the Zack Lyman Podcast and growing my own stand up comedy career.Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been performing stand up comedy for over 12 years now. In that time there has been high moments and low moments. Comedy is not an easy career path, on a Saturday you could be performing in front of hundreds and then on Tuesday be performing for chicken wings at a dive bar. It is important to always be pushing forward in comedy, that is the only way. There is no clear path! Something that sets me apart is my style or you might call my comedy voice. In the beginning sounding different or having a different point of view can make it harder to get booked. But once you really find your footing and really grow into your own style it can very much help with booking and standing out in important showcases.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends are in town and want to catch some great stand up comedy I would highly suggest the Tempe Improv. Also, I really love The Bridge Improv Comedy Theater in Tempe, they really know improv comedy and have some amazing classes and shows.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father Rod Lyman has always been supportive in my comedy career. My father has helped me at my low points and been there to celebrate my high moments. I am happy to have him in my life for guidance, support and understanding.
