We had the good fortune of connecting with Kurt and Deanna Mangum II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kurt and Deanna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

We started CoupleyFit in 2016 to share our passion for health and fitness! We would receive frequent requests from friends, family, and co-workers about our daily routine, workouts, and nutrition tips to improve their fitness and lose weight. Our first client was a co-worker who lost over 60 lbs in under a year on our program! In addition to exceeding her weight loss goal, Maricela’s life transformed, and her family’s health and wellness greatly improved. Our virtual CoupleyFit wellness program and app makes getting fit easier by focusing on four areas of physical health: sleep, water, activity, and nutrition (S.W.A.N.)

After seeing the incredible transformations with individuals, we felt inspired to help couples transform their lives and reach their fullest potential together while creating generational health. Through accountability, motivation, connection, and sustainable healthy habits, we have helped transform over 200 lives, and our clients have lost over 2,000 lbs combined!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It can be hard to get fit alone. We all need accountability, motivation, and connection on our health journeys. CoupleyFit means two or more feeling better together! Together we help couples get fit and experience the power of growing stronger together.

We created an inclusive community, the CoupleyFit Club, for couples to connect through health and wellness, empowering each other to feel and be their best. Our CoupleyFit app is entirely virtual, delivering on-demand workouts, nutrition and weight loss guidance, daily accountability journal, weekly wellness evaluations, and weekly encouragement in a judge-free environment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

A city that we love to spend time in is Tempe. Deanna graduated from Arizona State University, and we are City of Tempe Ambassadors.

We would start with dinner at Ghostranch in Tempe for locally sourced, traditional southwestern cuisine.

The following day we would get up early and hike A Mountain in Tempe and get waffles at Daily Jam.

We would have fun at a spring training baseball game in the afternoon before watching the sunset from swan boats at Tempe Town Lake. We would grab dinner at Alter Ego in The Canopy Tempe and end the night with rooftop drinks overlooking the bright lights of Tempe and surrounding cities.

We would visit the CIVANA wellness resort in Carefree, AZ, for self-care, massages, and rejuvenation on our way to Sedona to hike the beautiful red rocks and visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross. We’d end the night with a peaceful dinner at the Hilton Sedona, sipping wine and munching on smores by the fireplace.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to give recognition to God. Our faith has kept us strong through the peaks and valleys of starting a business. We keep a verse on a whiteboard in our office: John 3:30, “He must increase, but we must decrease.” In difficult times we are reminded that God is at work, and in our triumphant moments, to make it less about us and all about Him!
