We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Barrios and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I had the honor and privilege to be born into a family of immigrants. My parents immigrated from Mexico in the 80’s. I watched as my parents navigated culture differences, language barriers and economic hardships. They accepted them with grace and hard work. Years into them being in the US, they have been able to grow their own business and take many risks of their own. My parents were always really honest with talking about all things business, finances, and struggles. They were honest even when they failed. This was the example that I grew up seeing.

Risk is a word that carries either reward or failure, but through both, there is growth. A life without risks is a life without growth. That is one thing that I learned from my parents. Last year, among the pandemic uncertainty, I felt that I was ready to take on a new season in life and take on the risk of starting my own business. I was in a very great place in my educational career, but my inner creative soul longed for more. This risk came with a lot of uncertainties. I had very little business background and there were many investments to be done in order to get to a place where my business could flourish. When I look back to how far I have come because of the risk I took, I am so thankful to be where I am at. Risk makes life more flavorful and brings a lot of adventures (whether good or bad). The way I see it, the risk is always worth it as long as I can continue to learn and grow to become a better business owner, photographer, and person.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a native Tucsonan that always had a passion for creating and learning new things. I started to dabble into photography in 2016, and from there, my love for capturing memories grew. What I love most about my business is that I get to love people. Being a photographer is not only about clicking a camera and getting the technical aspects right, but rather getting to show people how valuable they are. I get to give an experience that is tailored to my clients. I get to compliment them and make them feel good in whichever season they are in ( marriage, family, graduations, etc.). I have learned that without a goal, a business can not triumph. My goal of loving people goes beyond a session or a click, but into creating a lasting memory for generations to come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Tucson is a fun and quirky town. One of my favorite parts is the amazing murals around town. You can follow a mural walk downtown and get to see all the great things. For a lunch out I would recommend Rollies, they serve the most delicious Mexican food, and the chef loves to play with traditional meals and make them his own. I also recommend that you visit Degrazia GALLERY IN THE SUN, this cute art museum makes you nostalgic for life in the desert.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to recognize the love and support of my husband, Marcel, through the process of growing a business from the ground up. Thanks to your unconditional love, support and encouragement I feel as if I can conquer the world. You are a rockstar and I appreciate you so much.
