Meet Jesyka Hope | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesyka Hope and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesyka, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I try to do something artistic every single day, whether it’s a big project or just something simple in my journal. It helps me stay centered and it’s a form of therapy for me. No matter how much regular life takes over, doing art brings me back and helps me regroup.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been doing art my whole life. Art, design, and creating has always been such a huge part of who I am. I used to draw Fran Fine’s outfits from ‘The Nanny’ and the Spice Girls’ outfits when I was little. As a child I would even make little catalogs of art or crafts I could do for a price and show it to my parents and friends to try and make money from my talents. I finally opened my website in September of 2015 after some hemming and hawing. I’ve always had a bit of a hard time with advertising and marketing but luckily I have wonderful friends who have given me advice and shared my creations on social media and supported me from the beginning. Something that sets me apart from others is my love of recycling and reusing and upcycling materials. I love to take apart old jewelry or cut up old clothes or get something random from the thrift store to use as something artistic. Everything has the potential to be art!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places in the valley are Mill Avenue in Tempe, downtown Mesa along Main Street, and the Phoenix Art Museum. Mill Avenue has tons of delicious restaurants (street tacos!) and charming little shops. One of my favorite places in the world is in downtown Mesa, Jarrod’s Coffee, Tea and Gallery. It’s a coffeeshop and art gallery and some friends and I used to do art shows there before Covid. It’s family owned and their menu is super yummy! Main Street also has a lot of vintage stores and quirky shops you can’t find anywhere else.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has always been extremely supportive and always willing to help me however she can. I definitely wouldn’t be here without her!
