Meet Jenny Martin | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As cliché as it sounds, without risk, there is no reward. Some of life’s greatest fulfillment comes from taking big risks. If we never take risks, we aren’t allowing ourselves space to grow to reach our full potential. Personally, I encourage taking risks even though it can be scary not knowing what is on the other side. My mindset has gradually shifted over the years when it comes to taking risks. I used to kind of play it safe and stay in my comfort zone. But throughout the years of taking risks and getting positive outcomes, it has built confidence in me to take more risks. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken recently has totally shifted my life and career. I left my full time job in healthcare as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer of seven years to pursue my passion of being a wedding photographer.
I wanted the freedom to continuously create but while working full time at a hospital, my time was limited. I enjoyed my career in healthcare, but photography has always been my passion. I couldn’t stop thinking about the joy photography brought me, so I decided to leave my health care profession and pursue photography full time. I wanted to share joyous moments with people and capture something that they could have forever. Even though I didn’t know what the outcome would be when quitting my job, I always had peace in me that knew everything was going to work out. I had the confidence that I would do whatever I needed to succeed in my new career choice and within a few short months of going full-time photography, I have accomplished more than I thought I would at this stage. I am forever grateful for taking the risk and have never been happier.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a wedding & lifestyle photographer. There are so many great photographers out there that inspire me daily, but what sets me apart from others is my editing style. I would describe my editing style to be dreamy, clean, & timeless. There’s warmth and feeling that I hope people can feel when they see my photos. I am most excited about future projects that I am working on including styled shoots, a podcast, and some educational content.
It started with a dream, which turned into a vision, and finally taking the action. Sometimes we get caught in the dreaming stage for too long that we don’t take the necessary action to make it happen. I had the dream and vision for about two years before I finally became a full time wedding photographer. It was not always easy. Sometimes imposter syndrome crept in and tried to talk me out of pursuing my dream, but I overcame that by clinging to my faith. I truly believe that everything was going to work out the way it was meant to be and sometimes “failing” is our greatest learning experience. I wasn’t really afraid of failing because you only fail when you give up.
I would want the world to know that if I am ever so lucky to be your photographer, I truly am your biggest fan! Sharing the most important moments of peoples’ lives and striving to show people the beauty they possess is my greatest honor. The best part about my career is that I have the opportunity to provide meaningful photos that people can cherish for a lifetime and even share to future generations.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start their morning with a workout at a local gym facility or rooftop yoga, followed by bloody marys and mimosas for brunch. We would catch up and then take a stroll around town. We would then maybe hang at my house to relax and chill for a bit before going back out into the town at night. We would end the night at a rooftop bar or a local restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents are always my inspiration. Growing up, they always instilled a hard work ethic in me and have taught me to always be grateful. They are immigrants from Vietnam and they took so many risks to come to America to provide a better life for their children/family. Because of that sacrifice and risk, all of my success is a result of their bravery.
