We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Peyton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Everything about being a creative is a risk. It’s feast or famine most of the time and you have to get used to the ups and downs, but just working in a field because it’s “safe” sounds like a mental risk. For some people it may work, but for me I live for those ups and downs!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a creative for a living is an amazing job. I’m so grateful because I get to do what I love, but it comes with its own unique challenges. When you make art professionally it’s no longer just for you and you open yourself up for judgement. It’s very vulnerable. Most creatives I know, including myself are introverted so putting yourself out there can feel like a lot at times. I still wouldn’t change it for the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I just checked out Kura sushi bar in Phoenix and it was amazing! I would for sure take someone there as well as Filebertos, and Short Leash for food. For nature I’d say South Mountain, Papago, the desert botanical gardens. For nightlife we’re going to Charlie’s. It’s going to be a weird week, but we may just have a few good stories.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my family, my friends, and the underdogs that know they can win even when the world doesn’t see it!
