We had the good fortune of connecting with Ae Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ae, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business was cultivated by the idea that you don’t always have to fit into a category and you don’t have to be only one thing. I felt like creating my own category for what my business was going to be and the environment I wanted to create. I knew a lot of my passion stemmed from wanted to be a part of enhancing peoples features and making them beautiful. I love to say that I came from the beauty industry, but what my business has evolved into is a body artist. I always say I am a body artist that focuses on enhancing all types of beauty in all types of ways.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is that I am both beauty and edge. I’m creating a business where they can be a mix of both. I wouldn’t classify myself a tattoo parlor or a beauty parlor but an art studio. It’s took a while for me to understand that I wasn’t one or the other and I was trying to force something that just wasn’t. Thanks to my clients and the people that support my vision and continue to support my art. I feel the direction my business continues to grow in is one of its own. If I’d like people to take something from this it’s that, I give my all into everything I put my mind to and my business is one of them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is tough, but I will list some of my favorite places. One of my favorite restaurants is Buck & Rider, for their oysters. Casey Moore’s Oyster House for their escargot. Postinos for their meatballs. The aquarium, the Phoenix museum, Melinda’s Alley and then Valley bar right after. Sedona or flagstaff is a must try, even as a day trip. Bisbee is underrated. I wish I was more organized with my thoughts but these are the places I’d take them to first.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So this might be a little different but I owe a lot of my growth and success to my nephew Zaihel Gonzales. He passed away a little more than 2 years ago. It’s what kickstarted a lot of gears for me, I no longer wanted to be living a life that didn’t serve a purpose, that didn’t fuel a fire inside. I knew that I owed it to him and myself to do something that mattered. I wanted everything I did, and the art I made to be fueled by the love I had for him and myself. My art is beautiful because of the invention behind it.
